The Mighty Angel of Revelation 10

The Appearance of the Mighty Angel is the Crescendo of all history

After the Seven Seals are opened by the Lord Jesus and the first six of the Seven Trumpets are sounded, the Mighty Angel appears. This is the greatest moment in human history. Up until this time, even in all the plagues and cosmic events of the Seals and Trumpets, the events are primarily what occurs in the natural world. The veil still lies over the heart of unbelievers and the vast majority of mankind refuses to repent of their idolatry, wickedness and murders. Now comes the day of great unveiling as the Mighty Angel descends from heaven:

Then I saw another might angel descend from heaven, robed in a cloud, with a rainbow over his head. His face was like the sun; his legs resembled fiery pillars, and he held an opened little scroll in his hand. His right foot he placed on the sea, and his left foot he placed on the land, while with a loud voice like the roar of a lion, he gave a shout. And as he shouted, the seven thunders raised their voices.

When the seven thunders had spoken, I was going to write; but I heard a voice from heaven that said. “Seal up what the seven thunder have spoken and do not write it.”

Then the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and the on the land lifted his hand heavenward, and swore by Him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heaven and what it contains, also the earth and what is in it, and the sea with everything in it. “There shall be no further delay; but in the days of the seventh angel’s trumpet blast, when he is at the point of blowing it, the mystery of God will reach completion in agreement with the good news He gave His servants the prophets.” Revelation 10:1-7 NBV

The Mighty Angel represents none other than Jesus Himself

It is surprising how much confusion there is about who the Might Angel represents. Many of the most popular prophecy “experts” insist that He is just an angel. This theory is easily refuted by reading the prophet Ezekiel:

...on that which resembled a throne, high up, was a figure with the appearance of a man. Then I noticed from the appearance of His loins and upward something like glowing metal that looked like fire all around within it, and from the appearance of His loins and downward I saw something like fire and there was a radiance around Him. As the appearance of the rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the surrounding radiance. Such was the appearance and likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it I fell on my face... Ezekiel 1:26-28.

The Lord also gives Ezekiel an open scroll to eat here, exactly as John is given a scroll to eat by the Might Angel: “...eat this scroll and go speak to the house of Israel...” “Then I ate it and it was sweet as honey to my mouth.” Ezekiel 3:1-3.

There can be no doubt that John is describing with the same details, the person that Ezekiel encountered 600 years before. Certainly no mere angel, but none other than the Lord Himself. With His face shining like the sun (Matthew 17:2, Revelation 1:16) the Mighty Angel has a glory unique to Jesus alone.

The Mighty Angel represents the appearance of Christ on the clouds

The Mighty Angel of Revelation 10 represents Jesus Himself, just as the Woman of Revelation 12 represents Israel. Both are symbolic pictures of the persons and events that will play out in a more literal way during the Apocalypse. The Mighty Angel is a pictorial representation of Christ symbolizing His return on the clouds and all that His appearing will mean to the world.

The Mighty Angel closes the first part of the Apocalypse and opens the second part

The Church is completed, fully redeemed and caught up at the Seventh Trumpet. The Mystery of God, who is Christ and the Church, is finished. Every eye will see Him as He appears on the clouds, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. The Lord then turn His attention to Israel and the prophesies written in the Little Open Scroll. The Temple is measured and the Ark of the Covenant appears in heaven, reaffirming that God’s covenant with Israel all His promises to the Jews through the Hebrew Prophets are about to be fulfilled.

The Mighty Angel together with the resurrection-rapture of the Two Witnesses give a completed picture of the appearance of Christ on the Clouds and the rapture of the Church

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. II Thessalonians 4:16-18

But after three and a half days, the breath of life from God came into them, and they stood on their feet; and great fear fell upon those who were watching them. And they heard a loud voice form heaven saying to them, “Come up here.” Then they went up into heaven in the cloud, and their enemies watched them. Revelation 11:11-12

Just as Rehab was escorted out of Jericho by the two spies just before judgment fell on the people of the city; and Lot and his family were escorted out of Sodom by the two angels just before judgment was rained down from heaven, the Two Witnesses may serve as the same kind of escort at the appearance of Christ on the clouds and the resurrection/rapture of the Church. The rapture of the Two Witnesses may precede the general rapture of the Church by a few days or weeks.

Summary

The Mighty Angel symbolically represents Jesus Himself as He will literally come on the clouds to rapture the Church, pronounce judgment on the kingdom of the Beast, claim title to the Kingdom of the World, bring in the Day of the Lord and begin fulfilling the prophecies to Israel written in the Little Open Scroll. The Two Witnesses are two men who represent Jewish and Gentile believers and will prophesy in the last 3 ½ years of the Tribulation. Their death, resurrection, and rapture may serve as a kind of escort for the general rapture of the the Church that will soon follow at the appearance of Christ on the clouds.
